Here's Rolling Stone article about Counterfeit2

Depeche Mode keyboardist tackles Lennon and the Velvets
Although Depeche Mode keyboardist Martin Gore is best known for his own songs -- he penned the band's signature tunes, from "People Are People" to "Personal Jesus" to "I Feel You" -- he spends his extra time reworking other people's material.
"I really like the ideas of covers records," Gore says. "They show anyone who's interested what inspired the artist. The ones Bryan Ferry did when I was a kid opened up a whole new world of music to me."
Gore just released Counterfeit2, the full-length follow-up to his 1989 covers EP Counterfeit. On the new collection he brings an electronic cabaret sound to songs like Nick Cave's "Loverman," the Velvet Underground's "Candy Says" and John Lennon's "Oh My Love."
"I've always had in the back of my mind that I'd like to do a second covers album," Gore says. "I didn't really feel that the first one was representative, because it was just an EP. When I realized that Dave [Gahan, Depeche Mode frontman] was going to make a solo record, I realized that now would be the perfect time."
For now, covers records are the only way Gore wishes to express himself musically outside of Depeche Mode. "I don't think it would be right for me to be use my own material for a solo record while I'm still part of Depeche Mode," he says. "That would create a conflict."
Gore is already looking forward to writing the next Depeche Mode album, especially if Counterfeit2 inspires him the way the first one did. [glow=green,2,300]"Straight after Counterfeit we made Violator," [/glow]he remembers. [glow=green,2,300]"I think Violator's probably up there with our best album, so if I can do something like that again I'd be very happy."[/glow]
